NEW YORK — Gay and lesbian groups on Friday applauded a state appeals court’s decision to uphold New York City’s domestic partnership law, which expands benefits for the domestic partners of city employees.
The five-member Appellate Division of the state Supreme Court ruled the city did not violate the jurisdiction of the state, which does not permit same-sex marriages.
“This ruling will aid many lesbian and gay families,” said Marvin Peguese, an attorney for the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund.
