  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

It might well be that the highest resolution is actually the correct one. Hi-res images tend to make things smaller (i know, it sounds odd, but it's true!) because there's a larger amount of pixels onscreen. On a 640x400 pixel monitor, an text letter "L" of say 10 pixels high, would be quite large. On a 1280x1024 monitor however, those same 10 pixels will look tiny!

So if the images (ie pictures like the one below) look correctly proportioned, (the moon should look circular) but the text and windows icons look tiny, then this is what you do.

You need to adjust your desktop display to cope with the higher res. Go to [START] -> control panel -> display. Then select the APPEARANCE tab. Where it says "font size" change it to "large fonts" or even "extra large fonts" if that's not big enough. That should sort out any text size problems on your desktop!

Try that first and see if that works for you. If it does, we'll sort out the text size problems in your browser next :)

Bye for now - Fluffy McNoo. :)

Fantastic! Okay, next is the text in your browser. If you're using IE, do the following.

Look at the top of the page, click on "view". Next select "text size" and change it to "larger" or "largest". That should sort out your text size issues for that browser.

    If you're running Firefox 2, it's a little different.

Hold down CTRL and look for the "+" (plus) symbol. This will enlarge your text size. To reduce, just hold down CTRL and use the "-" (minus) key.

If you use Firefox 2, there's also a handy little plugin you can download called NoSquint. This allows you to use your CTRL and your mousewheel to enlarge text, as well as having a default size set. (I run mine about 150%) If you want more information on Nosquint, just say the word, and I'll provide the link :)

Try what I suggested for IE/FF, and let me know how it goes :)

If all is sorted there, I'll sort out your desktop icons next!

Bye for now - Fluffy McNoo :)

I have FF, and it worked. Thanked you so much!!! My icons on my desktop are fine, they changed when I changed the size of the text. You wouldn't happen to know how to change the size of the text for IM? Shouldn't that have changed when I changed the text for the desktop?

Sorting out those tiny desktop icons. Here's the fast way of doing it

Click on a blank part of your desktop (ie, not on an icon or toolbar). A small menu should come up.

Click on "properties" then the "appearance" tab. Recognise it? Yes, the same place as changing your desktop text size. But this time we're going a bit further.

Beside "font size" bottom left, there's an "advanced" button. Click on it.

You should now see a window that says "advanced appearance". Halfway down you'll see an option marked "item:" and a drop down menu highlighted in blue. At the moment it should say "desktop" within that blue bar. We're about to change that!

Click on the "down" arrow to the right of this blue bar marked "desktop", and select "icon" instead. You should now get a new option that says "size:" and a number beneath (most likely 32, in this case). Simply type a larger number in. (48, for example). Then click okay, and click apply and okay, in the previous window. That should make those icons much larger, though they may move around a bit on your desktop, so be warned!

Hope you find all the information helpful, Rain, and enjoy your new PC! :)

As I said, I feel it is my duty to anyone who is considering a new PC purchase. Unless one is a gamer, I can't see any benefit of using Windows over Mac. After nearly a decade they have many of the kinks worked out of XP but all they've done is make it a shinier pile o' turds. All the Windows users out there clinging to their soon-to-be unsupported copies of XP, you're only living in the past. Eventually you'll need to move in to the next generation of the OS world and what's it going to be? Vista? The overwhelming majority on that one is no. I have no faith that their next OS will be any better. But you have what, 2 years before they finally pull the plug on it. Enjoy it while it lasts.

*warm grin* I enjoy helping people... it's fun, and I teach myself a few things while I'm at it, so it helps me too. So I'm really happy, I'm proving to be such a help to you tonight! :)

Hmm... MSN, let me see now... see if this solves the problem.

In the conversation window, on the Tools menu, click Text size.

Then click the size of the text you want to use.

That should do it... try it and see. ;)

Bye for now - Fluffy McNoo. :)

You should be smart enough to know that just because there are a lot of Windows users, that doesn't make the platform better. Windows practically cornered the market back in the 80's by virtually giving away their source code where Apple jealously guarded theirs, and so Windows was able to get a very large foot in the market. By the time people realized that they'd been had, it was too late to switch to something else, they'd already built the infrastructure on DOS.

How many people own a Mercedes or an Audi compared to a Ford Taurus or Hyundai Sonata. Yet I'm sure you won't argue that the Ford Taurus is a better car than either of those.

And I was not aware that they made doggie chocolate.

Mercedes tend to cost a little more than Fords, Shake, but as far as I'm aware of, Mac's don't cost 5 times the price of a PC... it's a different platform, but I don't see the massive superiority in it, else Mac would charge for the extra power, performance and prestige of using their luxury machine.

Let's face it, a Mac, is just as much a glorified calculator and typing machine as a PC is. Your bragging about using a Mac reminds me of the fanboy zealots who decry anyone who doesn't use the same gaming console as they do, no matter if there's no difference between them. Such fanboyism has been going on since the days of 8-bit machines, if not earlier. And then, as now, it's truthful to say, each system has it's advantages, and disadvantages. Your viewpoint is somewhat... limited by it's one sided "it's this or it's nothing" attitude, which is something I've observed about how you think on several topics. Highly intelligent thinking, no doubt about it. But... two dimensional. Think Khan, in the "Wrath of Khan" movie. I think you'll know what I mean. ;)

    Oh and shake?

It's not actually the chocolate that harms, it's a chemical within it that does. Some doggies can react violently to it. Tiny amounts of chocolate is fine, large amounts can kill, depending on the size and health of the doggie in question.

I'd use a PC if I had to, I do at work, for instance, but if I'm spending my money and I have a choice, then no, I would never willfully buy a PC. I recommend a Mac whenever a computer decision needs to be made by someone I know because I know in the long run it is the better deal. It will last longer and outperform Windows in almost every category. Leila could certainly testify to the truth of my claims as she used to mock me and my Mac, now she owns one and loathes PC's more than I do.

But if the person chooses otherwise, that's fine. In the end it comes down to what one is comfortable with. If Windows does what you need it too then, as I've said before, you really don't need to switch to a different OS. However, if one is not married to the platform and is in the mood for a different kind of user experience, Mac is the way to go.

But I expect you'll be seeing more Macs as you move along. Their share price is bumping $200 and they have been making steady gains in the PC market for the last several years. The halo effect of the iPod has really paid off and more and more macs are being purchased by colleges and college students. Couple that with the dying behemoth that is Windows and things will only get better for Apple.
